The Request
To create an event to increase sales opportunities for an Austin Real Estate agent. Sylvia suggested sponsoring a house-warming party for his clients. After the family had moved in, Sylvia met with the homeowners to establish what type of housewarming event suited them. They wanted to meet the neighbors, make friends, and establish themselves as part of the community. Sylvia ended up producing a Lady Tea on a Sunday afternoon with a small chamber music concert.
Sylvia's Tip
Strangers meeting for the first time need something to break the awkward silence. Try having a common activity to spark conversation (a game, entertainment, or presentation).
For the Realtor, Invitations, event signage, and follow-up mailings and emails all promoted the realtor as the event's sponsor.

The Outcome
Better than the homeowner and realtor could have hoped! The homeowner was quite shy, but after the event, she asked the attendees to stay and plan another get-together. As Sylvia cleaned up, the ladies discussed various neighborhood activities (Halloween block party, monthly couple get-togethers, establishing a neighborhood babysitting list, etc.) Sylvia told them that within a few days, they would receive a document listing contact information for all in the neighborhood who RSVP (with the realtor’s logo at the top). A follow-up survey found that 100% of the contact lists were posted on the refrigerator.
