The Request
To create an event that would allow the best communication between two companies who want to start a co-referral network. Sylvia arranged a cocktail event for a “meet and greet” for the top sales associates and marketing managers. Added invitees unrelated to the two companies attended to help solicit conversation on a more casual level allowing “business” to occur after a friendly chat.
Sylvia's Tip
When two businesses are meeting for the first time, let the initial meet be on a more personal level. Knowing if your personalities match is equally important as business compatibility.
For the Realtor, Invitations, event signage, and follow-up mailings and emails all promoted the realtor as the event's sponsor.
Event Features
-
Charcuterie
-
Open bar (with entertaining bartender)
-
Chef invited to attend (as ice breaker)
-
Budget $2,000
The Outcome
Walking in, the meeting felt formal. Sylvia introduced the bartender who quickly created a fun environment with jokes about drinks and stories about bartending. Then the chef was introduced. She started talking about the appetizers and her business. Within 15 minutes of arrival, the chatter between businesses was warm and friendly. At the 30 min mark, Sylvia started introducing sales representatives and marketing personnel, connecting the two businesses to appropriate department heads. After some casual discussion, the conversation turned to business. By the end of the event (a total of 2 hours), personal phone numbers were exchanged and future meetings had been scheduled.
The two businesses did end up partnering and within a month, plans for co-marketing and several referrals between sales departments occurred.
